Workers in Ondo State-owned tertiary institutions have suspended their 14-day warning strike following resolutions reached with the state government led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Joint Action Committee of Ondo State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (JAC-ODSTI), which comprises the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), announced the suspension in a press release issued on Wednesday.
The decision followed a crucial meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Akure, where key agreements were reached to address the workers’ demands.
According to the statement, the suspension affects all institutions under the state government, including Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko; Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; University of Medical Sciences, Ondo; and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
Some of the resolutions that led to the suspension include:
The payment of the final tranche of the workers’ Wage Award by next week.
Settlement of the outstanding January 2017 subventions to the three universities to enable them offset some salary arrears.
Approval to increase monthly subventions to the institutions, subject to financial audits of their income and expenditure profiles.
Collaboration between the institutions and the state government in deploying technological tools to monitor finances and ensure accountability.
The government also issued a matching order to the Commissioner for Finance and the State Accountant General to ensure full compliance with the resolutions on or before Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
JAC-ODSTI has, therefore, directed all its members across the affected institutions to resume work immediately.
