I won’t watch while Christians are being killed in Nigeria — Trump

United States President, Donald Trump, has declared that Nigeria has once again been placed on the list of “countries of particular concern” due to alleged widespread persecution and killings of Christians.

Trump, in a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Friday, said the U.S. could not ignore what he described as ongoing atrocities against Christians in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries,” he wrote. “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

The “country of particular concern” status is a designation used by the U.S. government for nations accused of severe violations of religious freedom.

Nigeria was first placed on the list during Trump’s presidency, following reports of incessant attacks and religious hostilities, particularly in the Middle Belt and northern parts of the country.

The country has for years battled violent clashes between herders and farmers, along with attacks from extremist groups, which have resulted in thousands of deaths and displacements.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian government had not issued any response to Trump’s latest declaration.
