Why Aiyedatiwa yet to appoint Deputy Governor, dissolve Ondo cabinet

Less than a month after Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was sworn-in, the much anticipated appointment of a Deputy Governor and the dissolution of the State Executive Council (SEC) may have hit the brick wall, Starnews NG reports.

Residents and political aficionados have been expecting an implicit dissolution of the cabinet and probably with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

It will be recalled that Starnews NG reported the imminent dissolution of the cabinet, LG/LCDAs Caretaker Commmittees, after Governor Aiyedatiwa was sworn-in December 27, 2023.

While the LG/LCDAs’ Caretaker Commmittees have been dissolved by the governor as reported by Starnews NG, it was learnt that Aiyedatiwa has halted further concrete actions until the remains of his predecessor, Late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is committed to mother earth.

Although online reports claimed that the late Governor’s funeral arrangements has been scheduled for 15th—25th February, 2024.

A source familiar with the political trends in the state, revealed that Aiyedatiwa was advised to shelve the plan of dissolving the cabinet and naming of his Deputy.

The source who craved anonymity disclosed that “Aiyedatiwa has his plans already, but the burial of his former boss has prevented him from implementing the robust plans which will bring new hands on board.”

Meanwhile, an Akoko-based lawyer, Barr. Oladimeji Oyesusi has berated the move by desperate politicians playing politics with the late Governor Akeredolu’s burial to slow down the activities of Aiyedatiwa, saying such move is uncouth, uncivilized and wicked.

Barr. Oyesusi also “condemned the action of the late Governor’s wife, Betty Akeredolu and his son, Babajide Akeredolu for bringing the corpse of the late Governor into Nigeria without informing Governor Aiyedatiwa officially.“

This was made known in a write-up posted on Facebook by a user, Taiwo Ilesanmi.

The Lawyer described the action as barbaric in nature, self-serving, and unconstitutional to say the least.

He then warned desperate politicians who are behind this unholy plan to refrain from it.

According to him, “the myopic strategy of delaying Akeredolu’s burial is geared towards slowing down Governor Aiyedatiwa’s activities, and this is very unnecessary and uncalled for.

“Following the good legacies of late Governor Akeredolu, his corpse does not deserve the embarrassment these people are offering him. The late Governor while alive, was made to go through harrowing experience, his remains must not be allowed to go through that same very demeaning process.

“It is a very well established tradition, convention and legally acceptable practice that when a Governor dies whether serving or former, it is the responsibility of the state government to give him/her a well befitting burial. But in this case, you are hiding the ex-Governor’s corpse from someone whose is legally permitted to take up the responsibilities of the burial. To my mind, this is a myopic decision, and it is highly wicked and ludicrous.

“As a good citizen of Ondo State and as someone who loved Aketi’s approach to issues of security in Ondo State while he was alive, I wish to humbly advise the wife of the late Governor Akeredolu and his son, Babajide to give deviant ears to the proposal of desperate politicians who are proposing that Akeredolu’s burial should be delayed till May or June 2024. It is obvious to all and sundry that such a proposal is made to satisfy their inordinate ambitions.

“For me, I believe that Akeredolu’s burial should be done as soon as possible to allow him, have a very good eternal rest”.

In another development, a user identified as Oluwafemi Ed Akeredolu, has clarified that the late Governor’s family didn’t put out any outfit for the burial.

Oluwafemi wrote: “THIS IS TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT THE AKEREDOLU FAMILY HAS NOT AND DID NOT PUT OUT ANY OUTFIT DESIGN IN FORM OF ASO EBI FOR THE BURIAL CEREMONY.

THE ACCOUNT AND NAME IN THE PICTURE BELOW IS UNKNOWN TO US AND IS DEFINITELY THE WORK OF FRAUDSTERS TRYING TO HARNESS THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEFRAUD INNOCENT PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY.

PLEASE DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM . THANK YOU.”
