Sowore At It Again, Declares Support For Mass Action Over Oworonsoki Demolitions

Human rights activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has once again stirred public attention after declaring support for mass action over the ongoing demolitions in Oworonsoki, Lagos State.

Sowore, in a post shared on his social media platform (Facebook) on Monday, condemned the alleged warning issued by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, cautioning him and members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement against organizing a protest.

He described the warning as an abuse of power and an attempt to suppress citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest and free expression.

“I heard the CP of the Nigeria Police Force Lagos had the effrontery to warn that TIB & I are not to protest over Oworonsoki Demolitions; these unprofessional, worn-out officers have no place in our society. The mass action must go on!”he said.

Sowore insisted that the planned protest would proceed as scheduled, stressing that it is aimed at calling attention to the “inhumane treatment and displacement” of residents affected by the demolition exercise.

He further vowed that no intimidation from state authorities would deter him or his supporters from standing in solidarity with the affected communities.
