Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be observed as Eid-el-Adha, marking one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar.
The declaration follows the sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday, indicating the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1446. According to a statement shared by Haramain Sharifain via social media, the first day of Dhul Hijjah falls on Wednesday, May 28.
The key dates outlined for this year’s observances include the Day of Arafah on Thursday, June 5, followed by Eid-el-Adha the next day. The Day of Arafah, considered the spiritual peak of the Hajj pilgrimage, sees millions of pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in solemn worship and prayer.
Eid-el-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims across the world in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
A common chant associated with the pilgrimage, also shared in the announcement, reads: “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
(“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Truly, all praise, blessings, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”)
This declaration provides clarity for Muslims preparing for Hajj and the associated religious activities, including prayer, charity, and animal sacrifice in honor of the event.
