The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed that no police officer should carry an assault rifle while dressed in civilian clothing.
According to Afripost, During a virtual meeting with senior police officers on February 10, 2025, Egbetokun underscored the importance of professionalism and discipline in the force. He cautioned tactical units against misconduct, emphasizing that officers must be in proper uniform while on duty to maintain public trust.
The IGP also issued a firm warning against human rights violations, stating that any officer found guilty of such offenses would face strict disciplinary measures.
Additionally, he prohibited the unauthorized transfer of cases without his direct approval, expressing concerns over delays in justice and the hardship such actions cause to those involved.
Egbetokun urged officers to uphold ethical standards and avoid behaviors that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing law enforcement efficiency and restoring public confidence in the police.
