A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Mr Remi Olatubora, has resigned his membership from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the October 10, governorship election in the state.

Just yesterday, a former State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State and governorship aspirant, Banji Okunomo, deserted the PDP for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) with over 15,000 followers across the 18 Local Governments of Ondo State.

Starnews Nigeria gathered that the legal Luminary from Omi-Iyansan ward in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, Olatubora, had submitted his resignation letter from the PDP to his Ward Chairman, Apostle Medunoye, since (weekend) Saturday afternoon.

His defection was confirmed to Starnews Nigeria by one of his Aides who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity. Two separate ward chairmen from Irele Local Government also confirmed the development on Tuesday morning.

Olatubora, the leader of the PDP in Irele Local Government, is a former chairman of Ondo State Sports Council and a former two-term commissioner for Adult and Vocation Education before he was later appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State.

A leader of the PDP in Irele Local Government told Starnews Nigeria on Tuesday that many PDP leaders in the local government have left for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) before the exit of Olatubora which he described as a political giant and the symbol of PDP in the local government.

However, it is not yet cleared if Olatubora would be joining the ZLP or the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the state.

But a source hinted Starnews Nigeria that Olatubora left the PDP to support Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the ZLP from Ondo South ahead of the poll.

Starnews had reported on January 27, 2020, how some leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo South wrote an open letter to the National leaders of the party through the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and copied Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to warn the PDP and explain why the Party may lose this year’s governorship election in Ondo State if the party’s candidate does not emerge from the Southern Senatorial District of the state which they claimed is the next zone to produce the governor.

The open letter was signed by Hon. Bitire Solomon, a former Local government party chairman and chairman of chairmen of PDP in Ondo State, in conjunction with High Chief Daisi Mafimisebi, a former local government PDP chairman in Ondo State, on behalf of themselves and leaders of PDP in Ondo South of Ondo State
