Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has strongly warned school principals to stop releasing students to welcome him during his visits.
The warning came on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, as Wike commissioned the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara at the permanent site of Government Secondary School, Kabusa.
The minister was reacting to the sight of students standing outside their classrooms to greet him during the visit. Wike condemned the practice, calling it outdated and stating that it would no longer be permitted.
“It is not part of our culture, and this will be the last time such a thing happens. No one should bring students out of their schools to line the road,” Wike stated firmly.
He also urged school administrators to prioritize the education and welfare of students, rather than engaging them in ceremonial duties. “Our children deserve the best,” he added.
