Sowore Sparks Outrage as He Claims U.S. Revoked Wole Soyinka’s Visa — Nigerians React

Human rights activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has sparked online debate after alleging that the United States government has revoked the visa of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Sowore made the claim in a post shared on his official Facebook page, writing:

“Donald Trump reportedly revokes U.S. Visa of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka! SAD! What the US has become!”
Although the report remains unconfirmed, Sowore’s post quickly went viral, attracting hundreds of reactions and comments from Nigerians on social media.
One user, Ojediran Samuel Adesoji Osa, wrote:

“WS and Trump have been at loggerheads. I believe they should reconcile and look at diplomatic solutions.”
Another user, Doris Ogobueze, added humor to the discussion, writing in pidgin:

“But he been promise say he go tear am. Trump don wait tire but Baba no wan keep him promise. Trump na promise keeper.”
Similarly, Ejigbo Omale noted:

“Prof himself said he would tear his green card peradventure Donald Trump wins the US presidential election. That statement just got activated, regardless of the end it happened from.”

The post has continued to generate mixed reactions, with some Nigerians taking it as satire while others expressed concern over the alleged development.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official confirmation from the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria or the U.S. State Department regarding the purported visa revocation.

Professor Wole Soyinka, Africa’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature, had in the past criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump, vowing to destroy his U.S. green card if Trump won the election — a statement that drew global attention at the time.

While Sowore’s post has reignited that controversy, many Nigerians are calling for patience and verification before drawing conclusions on the issue.
