FG Has No Valid Charges Against IPOB Leader– Sowore

By: Sunday Ameh

Human rights activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has declared support for renewed calls for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, said the Federal Government’s case against Kanu has collapsed after prosecutors allegedly failed to present any valid charges against him.

“Now that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has confronted the so-called Federal Government prosecutors with the simple truth that there are no valid charges for him to answer, the façade of this entire case has finally collapsed,” Sowore wrote.

He added that continuing to detain Kanu despite the development “only deepens the injustice and exposes the rot in Nigeria’s legal and political system.”

Sowore further hinted that nationwide protests could soon resume if the government fails to release the IPOB leader, noting that “another #FreeNnamdiKanuNow action is imminent.”

“If the authorities refuse to do the right thing, the people will once again rise peacefully, lawfully, and decisively to demand justice,” he added.

Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021, is facing trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony. His arrest and continued detention have continued to draw criticism from rights groups, activists, and international observers.
