Wike Is Acting Like a Child– Rivers Elders Condemn Disrespect Towards Peter Odili

The Concerned Elders of Rivers State have strongly criticized Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over his recent remarks about former Governor Peter Odili, labeling his behavior as immature and disrespectful.

Wike recently claimed he had “rescued” Odili from political irrelevance, referring to him as a “General Overseer.”

He also cited the appointments of Odili’s wife, retired Justice Mary Odili, and his daughter, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as evidence of his influence.

According to Politics Nigeria, in a statement released in Port Harcourt and signed by former Governor Sir Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, and 12 other notable elders, the group condemned Wike’s comments.

They called his remarks inappropriate and contrary to the values of respect and unity cherished in Rivers State.

The elders specifically criticized Wike for using a church gathering as a platform to insult Odili, a respected elder statesman, and his family. They emphasized that elders are the custodians of wisdom and that undermining them damages the moral fabric of the community.

The statement suggested that Wike’s remarks were driven by frustration over Dr. Odili’s recent statesmanlike intervention to avert an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Fubara.

“Wike’s behavior is akin to that of a child who disregards the advice of elders and suffers the consequences,” the elders said.

They urged Wike to reflect on his actions, respect the contributions of seasoned leaders like Odili, and prioritize unity over personal grievances to uphold the dignity of Rivers State.
