The Edo Civil Society Organisation (EDOSCOS) has hinted Starnews that some angry staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) are in fresh plan to down tools over what they described as unfair treatment and poor working condition.

In a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Benin by Osazee Edigin, Public Relations Officer of Edo Civil Society Organisations, the group said:

“Some angry staff of the BEDC were in court on Monday in solidarity with Edo Civil Society Organisations, they lamented their poor working conditions which were not different from modern day slavery.

“They informed EDOCSO how they were given financial targets to meet up with by Funke Osibudu led management irrespective of whether services were rendered or not.

“One of them said, there is massive mobilization of their colleagues to down tools any moment from now as they cannot continue to bear the high handedness of the management whose primary mission is to milk the customers while supplying darkness”, the statement added

Recall that the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) instituted a civil case against Communities, civil society groups and youth groups, they are praying the court to grant them a perpetual injunction to restrain the aforementioned from protesting against its business dealings with electricity consumers.

They went further to demand the sum of N500, 000, 000 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as damages from the civil society group.

The case came up for hearing on Moday but was adjourned till November 14, 2018 to allow all parties file their claim.
