Police on Thursday confirmed that three persons were killed by robbers who attacked a bank in Ilara Mokin, Ifedore local government area of Ondo State.

A policeman, commercial motorcyclist and an official of Elizade University, Bunmi Afuye, were killed in the attack.

Police spokesman Tee-Leo Ikoro said investigation has begun into the incident.

Three persons hit by stray bullets were rushed to hospital.

Witnesses said the robbers carted away money, adding that they gained access into the bank by blowing up the bullet-proof door with dynamite.

The motorcyclist and the Elizade university official were passing by when they ran into the robbery operation and were shot dead

A bank customer said the six-member gang came about 3pm.

“I was inside the bank when the robbers came, and immediately all of us lay down. They started shouting, where is the manager! Where is the manager?” he said.

“So they later got the key of the vault and packed the money there but they were not satisfied with what they saw, and also opened the Automated Teller Machine, but there was not enough money there too. That infuriated them. Later, they took the money and went out angrily, shooting as they escaped.”
