Police Arrest Robbery Suspects in Kano, Recover Stolen Car, Arms

The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine members of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising residents across Kano and neighbouring states.

The breakthrough came after a coordinated operation by police operatives in Kano and Kaduna States, leading to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, said the suspects were linked to a violent robbery that occurred last Wednesday at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where the attackers carted away a Toyota Yaris car, ₦3.7 million, three mobile phones, and other valuables.

“In the course of the attack, the suspects assaulted the victim’s wife, inflicting serious injuries,” Bakori revealed.

He added that prompt response by officers attached to Dorayi Division led to the initial arrest of one suspect, while further intelligence by the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) led to the capture of eight others in separate locations within Kano and Kaduna.

The arrested suspects include:
Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).

According to the commissioner, the suspects confessed to participating in multiple armed robbery operations in Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja, including another recent attack at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters.

Items recovered include:
One double-barrel gun
One English Falcon pistol
One scrapped Phoenix pistol
18 live cartridges
Two cutlasses
Four knives
One iron cutter
Three torchlights
Two mobile phones
One red Toyota Corolla LE used in their operations
“All the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” Bakori stated.

He also highlighted the success of the command’s Operation Kukan Kura, a community-driven crime prevention initiative that has significantly reduced incidents of violent crimes, phone snatching, and street thuggery in the state.

The police boss commended his officers for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum, while appreciating residents for providing credible intelligence to support security efforts across Kano State.
