Police Arrest Rivers Pastor Over Alleged Rape of Minor

By Charles Maduka

The Rivers State Police have arrested a 45-year-old pastor known as Lucky in connection with an alleged case of rape involving a 10-year-old girl in the Ihuaje community of Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The arrest was made by a local security group called the ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), led by its commander, following reports of the incident. The suspect was handed over to the Ahoada Police Division for further investigation.

Dennis Otobo, a member of the Association Against Child Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, said he was contacted by the State Ministry of Health’s gender desk to follow up on a child protection concern.

During his inquiry, Otobo learned that Pastor Lucky, who also operates private schools in the community, was accused of inappropriate behavior toward the girl under his care. The child reportedly informed her parents during a visit to the pastor’s home. The parents then took her for a medical examination and reported the case to the police.

Otobo commended the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer and local security officials for their swift action in the case. He called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure justice if the allegations are confirmed.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest, stating that it followed a complaint from the girl’s parents and that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.
