Diran Odeyemi, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Wole Oke, the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, to immediately resign from his position and seek re-election under a different party.
This challenge follows Oke’s recent announcement of his exit from the PDP, where he claimed that the party would lose in the Oriade and Obokun local governments without him, despite having several political appointees in the region.
In a statement made in Osogbo on Sunday, Odeyemi dismissed Oke’s remarks about the PDP’s future in the constituency and expressed his belief that the lawmaker should not wait for the next election cycle.
Odeyemi suggested that Oke step down right away and run again on a different party platform to test his popularity.
Odeyemi also warned that if Oke chooses not to accept the challenge, the people in the constituency will begin the process of recalling him.
He criticized Oke for benefiting from the PDP for two decades and accused him of secretly supporting the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odeyemi stated that the PDP had not lost any valuable leader with Oke’s departure, but instead, they had rid themselves of a political liability.
He added that the PDP remains united and focused on re-electing Governor Ademola Adeleke in the upcoming elections.
