Popular activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the Ondo State Government’s recent authorization for the Chairman of the Amotekun Corps to proceed with the recruitment of new operatives.
According to Starnews NG, Sowore’s criticism was shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, where he highlighted the government’s failure to address a legally mandated issue: the issuance of employment letters to current corps members.
Sowore pointed out that while the recruitment of new operatives may be necessary, it is troubling that Governor Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has not fulfilled his obligation to ensure that existing members receive their employment letters, as required by law. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the rights of those who have already risked their lives in service to the state.
The activist further expressed concern over the reported harassment and intimidation of serving operatives by the Amotekun Corps Chairman, Adeleye, who has allegedly targeted those demanding their lawful employment letters and basic rights.
He raised critical questions about the treatment of dedicated corps members and the overall governance of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, stating: “The Ondo State Government has authorized the Chairman of the Amotekun Corps to proceed with the recruitment of new operatives. However, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has yet to address a critical and legally required issue, which is the issuance of employment letters to existing corps members, as mandated by law.
“Even more troubling is the governor’s continued failure to rein in the Amotekun Corps Chairman, Adeleye, who has reportedly been harassing and intimidating serving operatives for demanding their lawful employment letters and basic rights. These corps have already risked their lives in service to the state,” he stated.
