Dele Farotimi: I Still Stand With Peter Obi for 2027 Presidency

Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has reiterated his support for Peter Obi as his preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, if Obi decides to run.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, a programme aired on Channels Television, Farotimi said Nigeria’s current political condition makes it premature to focus on the next general election. He warned that such discussions could distract from the urgent national issues at hand.

“If we had a credible election today, and the same candidates from the last cycle were running, I would again vote for Peter Obi,” he said.

Farotimi stressed that only a candidate with better qualities and a stronger moral record could sway his decision, though he admitted that possibility is slim.

“I’d only change my mind if Obi aligns himself with people I cannot in good conscience support,” he explained. “Outside of that, I still see him as the most capable and trustworthy among the available options.”

While he expressed hope that Obi would present more decisive policies in the future, Farotimi affirmed that his belief in Obi’s leadership remains unchanged.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to focus on the country’s deteriorating state rather than political permutations for 2027, emphasizing that his loyalty to Obi is based on a desire for meaningful change in governance.
