Okoya Brothers Summoned by EFCC Over Viral Naira Abuse Video

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Subomi and Wahab Okoya, sons of businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning following a viral video showing alleged misuse of naira notes.

The video also featured a police officer, who has since been detained by the Nigeria Police Force.

In the footage, the Okoya brothers and the officer were seen in acts that sparked public outrage, leading to demands for accountability.

The police described the officer’s conduct as improper and announced his detention for disciplinary measures.

Critics took to social media, accusing authorities of unequal treatment, comparing the case to previous incidents involving celebrities like Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest, who faced swift action for similar offenses.

In response to the backlash, the EFCC issued a letter directing the brothers to report to their Lagos office on January 13, 2025, for further investigation, The Guardian reports.

The summons was signed by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate.
