Kachalla Dan Lukuti, a notorious bandit leader linked to a series of violent attacks across Zamfara and Katsina states, has reportedly died under unusual circumstances following a strange illness that caused him to bark like a dog before his demise.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the development on his Twitter page, cited sources indicating that Lukuti had been gravely ill for about a week.
According to Afripost, his condition was characterised by aggressive behaviour, uncontrollable spasms, and, in his final hours, persistent barking noises akin to those of a rabid dog.
“The nature of his illness terrified his gang members, who refused to approach him,” a source disclosed. “They watched from a distance, unable to offer any help until he eventually died.”
Operating from the Kokonba forest in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Lukuti led a gang of over 50 heavily armed men. His criminal activities spanned several areas, including Dan Jiloga, Rijiya, Zonai, Magami, and the Gusau-Magami highway, with his influence extending into Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Despite his violent legacy, his final moments were marked by intense suffering. Eyewitnesses told Zagazola that he howled and barked uncontrollably before succumbing to the illness.
Fearing supernatural repercussions, Lukuti’s gang reportedly refused to handle his burial, instead compelling villagers in Kizara to take responsibility.
“The locals had no choice but to lay him to rest at the primary school,” Zagazola reported.
