Kogi State Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo has linked rising insecurity in the North Central region to the movement of terrorists fleeing military operations in the North East and North West parts of Nigeria.
He shared this view on Friday after a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee in Abuja.
The Nigerian military has been intensifying efforts to fight terrorism in the northern parts of the country, especially with recent airstrikes targeting insurgent groups.
According to reports, some terrorists have escaped these military actions, which Governor Ododo says is causing them to move into North Central states like Kogi.
When asked about the security challenges in his state, Ododo described the attackers as criminals taking refuge in forests and said many of those responsible for attacks in Kogi have been eliminated.
He assured the public that the government is firmly committed to protecting the people and their properties.
He also mentioned that the government prefers to handle security matters quietly but confirmed that security forces are effectively responding to threats.
Ododo expressed confidence that Kogi remains under control and said measures are ongoing to safeguard citizens’ lives and livelihoods.
This statement came shortly after President Bola Tinubu visited Benue State to console victims of recent violent attacks in the region, showing the broader concern about security in North Central Nigeria.
