Man Remanded Over Alleged Plot to Kill Petroleum Minister

A 35-year-old man, Susaine Morgan, has been remanded in custody after being accused of attempting to kill Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, on New Year’s Day in Bayelsa State.

The suspect faces additional charges of possessing two AK-47 rifles without permission.

Morgan was caught at the minister’s home in Ekeremor town, where he was allegedly part of a group planning an armed robbery and attempted kidnapping.

The arrest came after the police received a report about armed individuals posing as visitors to the minister’s residence.

Morgan was detained with a bag containing weapons, while others managed to blend in with the crowd and escape, Vanguard reports.

The police have been granted a 30-day detention order for Morgan to allow them to continue their investigation and pursue six other suspects who are still on the run.
