The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of a nursery school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, of Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, following her involvement in the physical abuse of a three-year-old boy.
According to Politics Nigeria, Nwadigo was apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) after a viral video showed her slapping a child, identified as Abayomi Michael, for failing to perform well in a classroom assignment.
The footage, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sparked outrage among Nigerians. Many users condemned the teacher’s actions and called for her arrest as well as the closure of the school.
In a statement released on its X account, the DSVA expressed gratitude to the public for bringing the incident to its attention.
“We appreciate everyone who reported the disturbing incident of a teacher physically abusing a three-year-old boy. We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher has been arrested by Owutu FSU, and an investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
The agency further assured Nigerians of its commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and fostering a safe environment for all.
