Three employees of the Lagos State House of Assembly have issued formal apologies to the Department of State Services (DSS) after being arrested for assaulting its officers during the recent leadership dispute at the Assembly.
The Assembly had requested the DSS’s assistance for enhanced security, with a letter signed by Acting Clerk Babatunde Ottun on February 14, 2025.
The letter, numbered LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, formally requested DSS presence starting February 15.
However, when DSS operatives arrived, a confrontation ensued between some Assembly workers and DSS officers, leading to the arrest of three individuals, based on CCTV footage.
The DSS then filed assault charges against them.
On March 28, 2025, Public Affairs Officer Ibrahim Olarenwaju, alongside Sergeant-at-Arms officers Adetola Oluwatosin and Adetu Adekunle, submitted separate apology letters to DSS Director-General Adeola Ajayi.
The letters, forwarded through the Lagos State Director of Security, expressed regret for the incident and committed to better conduct in the future.
Olarenwaju’s letter read: “I sincerely apologize for any actions or omissions that may have caused your esteemed office and personnel inconvenience during my duties at the Lagos State House of Assembly on February 17, 2025.”
Earlier in February, Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, also issued an apology to both the DSS and the Nigerian Police Force, condemning the assault on their officers as regrettable.
