The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian workers.
The development was made public on Wednesday through a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a political commentator, Imran Wakili.
“Dangote Refinery has officially laid off all of its Nigerian workers under the guise of ‘reorganisation’, less than 24 hours after 90 per cent of them joined PENGASSAN,” Wakili wrote.
He explained that the decision came barely a day after the workers joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
According to a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, which Wakili also posted on X, the refinery’s management stated that the move was part of a “total re-organisation” of the plant, following reported cases of sabotage in some units of the facility.
The notice instructed affected staff to return all company property in their possession to their line managers and obtain exit clearance.
In addition, the finance department was directed to compute benefits and entitlements of the sacked workers for payment in line with their terms of employment.
The management further expressed appreciation to the dismissed workers for their services during their period of engagement.
It would be recalled that the refinery has been enmeshed in a trade dispute with PENGASSAN over issues bordering on unionisation.
