Tiwa Savage: I’d Rather Be a Second Wife Than a Babymama

Afrobeat sensation, Tiwa Savage, has sparked reactions after revealing her preference for being a second wife rather than a babymama.

In a candid disclosure on her social media page, the award-winning singer said she would not mind marrying a man who is already married, provided she maintains a respectful relationship with the first wife.

According to her, most men who can match her current status are either in their 50s or already married, stressing that she has no interest in drama or unnecessary competition.

“Babymama, nah, I can’t be a babymama. But maybe I don’t mind being a second wife,” Tiwa said. “Anybody that can really match me right now is either in their 50s or already married. And honestly, they’re the best ones.”

She added that she would respect her boundaries in such a marriage, insisting that her career and lifestyle would make her an easygoing partner.

“All I need is just to get along with the first wife. I’ll respect my boundaries because I don’t really like drama. The first wife is going to really love me because I’m not going to stress her. I’ll be on tour most of the time. I’m very respectful, and I’ll always recognise she’s the first wife,” she stated.

Her comments have since stirred debates on social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions.
While some described her statement as honest and reflective of modern relationship dynamics, others criticised it as promoting polygamy and undermining women’s values.

Tiwa Savage, who has been vocal about her views on relationships and motherhood, continues to be one of Nigeria’s most influential female artists.
