Lagos Assembly Gets First Female Speaker, Mojisola Miranda

Mojisola Miranda, representing the Apapa 1 constituency, has been appointed as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.

According to Politics Nigeria, the impeachment, which was carried out by 32 members of the House, led to Miranda’s immediate swearing-in as the new Speaker. Miranda, who previously served as the Chief Whip of the Assembly, now assumes leadership of the 40-member House.

In addition, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, the Deputy Chief Whip, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker.

Obasa’s impeachment came in the wake of serious allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement leveled against him.
