The ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Comfort Jimtop, a 100-level Mass Communication student of Taraba State University, Jalingo, has taken a dramatic turn after the lifeless body of Emmanuel Kefas, a key suspect in the case, was discovered under unclear circumstances.
Kefas, believed to have been romantically linked to Comfort, was reportedly found dead in Tudiri community, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State. His sudden death has raised fresh questions and deepened the tragedy surrounding the case that has unsettled the university community and beyond.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Taraba State Police Command, through its spokesperson, James Lashen, said the discovery was reported by the village head of Tudiri.
“We received information from the village head of Tudiri in Ardo-Kola that a lifeless body was found. A Tecno Android phone was recovered beside the corpse,” Lashen said.
According to the police, when the phone was later charged, investigators found photographs of Kefas and the late Comfort Jimtop together, suggesting that the two were in a relationship prior to her death.
The body has been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death. Police said efforts are ongoing to trace the family of the deceased for official identification and further investigation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Kefas’s death was the result of suicide, homicide, or accident. Lashen emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and that more details would be released as they emerge.
This latest twist has thrown the state into shock, adding another layer of complexity to the tragedy. While many students and residents continue to mourn Comfort’s untimely death, the sudden demise of the prime suspect has left the public demanding answers as police intensify their probe.
