Indian authorities have arrested Nigerian national Ezeonyili Franklin Uchenna, also known as Kaleshi, after he evaded capture for over a year in connection with drug trafficking.
According to the Times of India, Uchenna was apprehended by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau in Ibrahimbagh following a tip-off about his return from Bengaluru. Upon his arrest, officers found 17 grams of MDMA in his pocket, despite his initial denial of carrying any illegal substances.
Further investigation led to the seizure of a pen drive from Uchenna, containing crucial evidence, including photographs, the names of 411 African nationals, and records of transactions linked to drug deals worth Rs 9.50 crore.
Authorities revealed that Uchenna had been recruited into the drug distribution network in 2022 by Nigerian nationals Divine Ebuka Suzee and his girlfriend, Uche Happiness. He was allegedly supplied with drugs by other dealers, including Joana Gomes (also known as Blessing), who was arrested earlier.
After Gomes’ capture, Uchenna fled to Bengaluru, where he continued his drug operations while maintaining digital records that were shared with Ebuka. His arrest was made possible by information from previous suspects, Ugwu Ikechukwu and Chukwu Ogbonna.
Uchenna now faces four criminal cases, including one in Bengaluru. This arrest follows a PUNCH Metro report from December 9, 2024, about three Nigerians arrested in Delhi for allegedly defrauding an Indian woman of over Rs 2.62 lakh.
