Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has hinted that he may soon dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he considers his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a gathering in Ukanafun local government area on Tuesday, the governor likened the PDP to an aircraft that has developed a fault and may no longer be reliable to reach the desired destination.
The governor made the comment while addressing a large crowd at a constituency meeting for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, held at QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk.
He suggested that he could soon follow in the steps of other politicians who have recently left the party.
The latest is Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with his supporters.
Eno described the PDP as deeply divided and suggested that its current condition may not carry him through the next phase of his political journey.
While addressing the audience, Governor Eno asked a question comparing the current situation of the PDP to a grounded plane and wondered if anyone would still choose to remain aboard when another functioning option is available.
Despite the political message, the event also served as an empowerment platform for constituents.
Over 400 people received support packages including business grants, cars, equipment, and financial help.
Among the beneficiaries were 154 traders, 116 farmers, four individuals who received N5 million each under the MSME grant, and 131 people who got equipment aid.
Governor Eno advised the recipients to use the items and funds wisely and warned against wasting them on unproductive activities such as Ponzi schemes.
He said it was important to visit communities even outside election periods, to share updates, listen to their needs, and include their requests in the next budget.
He explained that the town hall in Ukanafun marked the fourth of such visits across the federal constituencies of the state, with six more areas to go before the 2026 budget planning is finalized.
He promised that some of the demands from the people would be addressed depending on available funds, and that others could be taken up in future budgets.
Governor Eno stressed that his administration would continue to involve citizens in the running of the state, pledging to always stay connected with the people.
