Dalyce Curry, a retired Hollywood actress renowned for her roles in iconic films, has died in the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles.
The 95-year-old actress, celebrated for her performances in The Blues Brothers, The Ten Commandments, and Lady Sings the Blues, was confirmed dead by authorities on Monday, according to Forbes.
Her remains were discovered at her home in Altadena, California, which had been reduced to ashes by the inferno.
Curry was last seen on the evening of January 7, when her great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, dropped her off at her residence. Efforts to reach her the following morning were hampered by police barricades in the area, Kelley said.
The family later searched for Curry at the Pasadena Civic Centre, a shelter established for those displaced by the wildfires, but she was not found.
Officials eventually confirmed that her remains were discovered at the site of her destroyed property.
“About an hour ago, the coroner confirmed her remains were indeed found at the property. #RIPMOMMADEE,” Kelley wrote on Facebook on January 12. “We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”
Her granddaughter, Loree Beamer-Wilkinson, described Curry as “very active,” adding, “You would not think she was 95.”
Curry’s death is among at least 24 fatalities reported in the Los Angeles area due to the wildfires.
