BREAKING: Fire guts shops, destroys goods worth millions in Akungba

A late-night fire has razed at least ten shops opposite the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) gate in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, destroying goods and property worth millions of naira.

The inferno, which reportedly started around 10pm on Thursday, spread rapidly, leaving traders stranded as they struggled to save their belongings.

One of the victims, who identified himself as Prince, said he lost his entire workshop.

“I repair laptops, and over 400 laptops in my shop have been burnt to ashes. I don’t know what to do; everything, including my tools, is gone,” he lamented.

Another trader said: “By the time we arrived, the shops were already in ruins. We lost four deep freezers, drinks and other items. A colleague who sells phones here also lost everything.”

Eyewitnesses linked the incident to an electrical spark, though authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the fire.
