The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a man identified as Taye, who fled after allegedly killing and secretly burying his 13-year-old daughter, Davina, has surrendered himself to authorities.
The incident, which occurred on September 7, 2025, in Ugbolokposo, Uvwie Local Government Area, had sparked outrage after reports surfaced that the teenager was hurriedly buried under suspicious circumstances.
Taye, who had been on the run with members of his family, turned himself in at the Ebrumede Police Division following the arrest of his wife in connection with the case.
Confirming the development, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said in a WhatsApp message to journalists in Warri:
“We can’t say he killed her for now till after autopsy is carried out. Investigation is ongoing.”
Davina’s mother, Miss Dorcas, who had raised the girl single-handedly for 13 years, alleged foul play, claiming she was beaten up by Taye and his sister when she confronted them after learning of her daughter’s sudden death and burial.
According to community sources, Davina had recently called her mother, pleading to be taken away from her father’s house where she was allegedly being maltreated. The call was intercepted by her father, who assured Dorcas that Davina was fine and would adjust.
Civil rights activists have demanded a thorough and transparent investigation, insisting that both Taye and his wife must be held accountable until the truth is uncovered.
The police said Davina’s body has been exhumed and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
The case has drawn widespread public condemnation, with many calling for justice for the teenager.
