EPL: Maresca Gives Injury Updates Ahead of Brentford vs Chelsea

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has provided updates on his squad’s fitness concerns ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford.

The Italian tactician confirmed that midfielder Cole Palmer is still recovering from an injury sustained before Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over West Ham. Palmer, who also missed the 2-0 win against Fulham before the international break, has only recently returned to partial training.

“Cole took part in the session yesterday for the first time. Not the entire session,” Maresca told reporters. “We have one more session, we are going to try with him. We will see if it is okay. Otherwise, he will be out again tomorrow. He is recovering from an injury. It is not managing him, it is recovery.”

Maresca also delivered a setback on Liam Delap, revealing that the striker will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury against Fulham.

“Liam is around 10 to 12 weeks. Long way to go!” the Chelsea boss confirmed.

On new signing Alejandro Garnacho, who joined from Manchester United, Maresca explained that the winger is not yet fully fit but is gradually adapting to training demands.

“He is working well. For sure, he needs to work. He arrived not 100 per cent fit. He needs to work and is working well. We will see. Hopefully, soon we can give him minutes,” Maresca added.

Chelsea head into the Brentford tie looking to extend their winning run as they aim to close the gap on the top four.
