Edo Hires 360 Cleaners Directly into Civil Service

The Edo State Government has employed 360 cleaners across its three senatorial districts, marking a shift from the previous system of outsourcing cleaning services.

The announcement was made on Friday through the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua.

The Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, revealed in Benin City that this initiative aims to ensure better job security and improved earnings for the workers.

Previously, cleaners were hired through contractors, earning between N20,000 and N30,000 monthly. The new policy guarantees the state’s minimum wage of N70,000, Punch reports.

The cleaners have been assigned to various ministries and government offices, receiving direct appointment letters.

Okungbowa emphasized that this is only the first phase, with plans to hire additional cleaners to meet the workforce needs of the state.
