•  As ZLP announces merger with Ondo PDP

Dr. Eddy Olafeso, former chairman of the South West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s service and political experience are needed to rebuild the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.

Olafeso dropped this hint on Thursday evening in a telephone interview with Starnews Nigeria while reacting to the defection plan of Dr. Mimiko, the former governor of Ondo State, from the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to the PDP.

Starnews Nigeria reports that four Governors of the PDP met with Mimiko today at his ondo residence over plans by the ex-governor to return to the peoples democratic party, PDP.

The governors were Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto, Okezie Ipeazu, (Abia)

Reacting to this development, Olafeso said Dr. Mimiko would be embraced with open arms with the promise to support his leadership to rebuild the PDP in Ondo State.

“Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s service and political experience are needed to rebuild the Peoples Democratic Party at this critical time in Ondo State.
We will embrace and work with him with open arms as he discusses with leaders of our party to return home.”

“It is a moment of great opportunity for our party to have him back at a time we are putting our best to reposition the PDP in Ondo State and Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general election. Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko is a turning point and barometer of political progress in the politics of Ondo State.”

“As we hope for his official declaration into the PDP after a fruitful discussion with our governors, we encourage him to join the PDP without delay to rescue Nigeria from the misrule of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). I am assuring him that I and my teeming supporters will support his leadership and would be glad to work with him to build the party”, the oratory Olafeso said.

Similarly, Leaders of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP from across the 18 Local Government of Ondo State have resolved to collapse the ZLP’s structure for the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

The state chairman of the ZLP, Hon Joseph Akinlaja, among other leaders of the party agreed to dissolve the ZLP’s structure into the PDP after fruitful deliberations to pitch their tent with the PDP on Thursday at Mimiko’s residence in Ondo town.

At the meeting were Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, his running mate, Gboye Adegbenro, former Speaker of Ondo House of Assembly, Hon Jumoke Akindele, the state chairman of the party, Hon Joseph Akinlaja, among others.
