The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has instructed all parties involved in the House of Assembly crisis to maintain the status quo.
The directive was issued in the case marked CA/PH/198/2024, filed by Martin Chike Amaewhule and 24 others against Victor Oko-Jumbo and five other defendants.
Amaewhule and his co-appellants sought to overturn an Interlocutory Injunction from the High Court in Port Harcourt, which recognized Oko-Jumbo as the speaker.
Justice Charles Wali of the State High Court had also ordered Amaewhule and the 24 others to cease claiming to be the speaker and lawmakers in the state’s Legislative Assembly.
The appeal panel, convened via Zoom, instructed all parties to maintain the current state of affairs and adjourned the case until July 20.
The panel further emphasized that no actions should be taken that could affect the case’s merit and that a notice of appeal should be served to the defendants before the adjourned date.
