CBEX Promoter Surrenders to EFCC

Adefowora Abiodun, one of the individuals allegedly connected to the cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.

Abiodun, accompanied by his legal team, appeared at the EFCC headquarters around 4 p.m. on Monday, April 28, expressing his intention to cooperate fully with investigators probing the alleged multi-billion-dollar scam tied to CBEX.

The EFCC had declared Abiodun and seven others wanted just a week earlier, in connection with an investment fraud reportedly exceeding $1 billion.

Following an application from the EFCC, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted an order for the arrest and detention of the suspects while investigations continue and possible legal action is considered.

Justice Nwite stated in his ruling:
“I have considered the submissions of the applicant’s counsel, reviewed the supporting affidavit, exhibits, and written address. I find merit in the application and accordingly grant it.”

Abiodun’s lawyer, Babatunde Busari, Esq., said his client chose to report himself in order to challenge the negative narratives circulating in the media and to prove his willingness to cooperate with authorities.

“He came forward voluntarily to clear his name and correct public misconceptions,” Busari stated.
