Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed his appreciation for continuing as Udinese’s main goalkeeper, despite the team going through a challenging phase in Serie A.
Since returning from injury in March, Okoye has been a consistent presence in goal and one of the club’s top performers. He credited head coach Kosta Runjaić for showing confidence in him during this period.
“I’m still the same player who made his Serie A debut against Bologna, but I’ve grown and learned a lot since then,” Okoye said in an interview with the club’s official website.
“The coach believes in me, and I’m thankful to be on the pitch every week. It’s truly an honor to guard this goal.”
The 25-year-old encouraged his teammates to stay focused and continue putting in the effort needed to improve results.
“We need to keep working hard to overcome this tough spell. We’ve been putting in the work all season, and we must keep doing so to develop as a team,” he added.
Udinese have not recorded a win in their last seven league matches since Okoye’s return, but the Nigerian international has stood out, featuring in 21 matches and keeping four clean sheets this season.
As the campaign nears its end, Okoye is hopeful the team can finish strongly. After missing Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, he also aims to maintain his current form and secure a spot in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London.
