A joint security team on Sunday raided a criminal hideout in Isseke, a town in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where they discovered and destroyed a local bomb-making site.
The team included the police, military personnel, and members of the Anambra State Vigilante group.
The operation led to the destruction of the factory and the recovery of several locally made improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
These explosives were safely defused by experts at the site.
Authorities revealed that the hideout was one of the few remaining camps linked to a separatist group and had been heavily guarded and difficult to access for more than two years.
During the raid, one of the buried IEDs went off, damaging the road near the camp.
The explosion was part of a setup meant to stop security forces from entering the area.
Despite the blast, no one was killed, and the operation went on without casualties.
The police have stated that the effort to clear out such criminal zones will continue.
They also assured the public that security forces are working to take full control of the area and remove any remaining threats.
