Security personnel attached to the Joint Task Force in Tundun Wada, Kano State, have apprehended a 55-year-old man suspected of involvement in kidnapping. The arrest occurred during a military operation carried out in Sumana village, located within Tundun Wada Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Capt. Babatunde Zubairu.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested on April 20 and later presented before the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur. This took place during his Easter visit to soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Falgore, Doguwa LGA.
General Tukur praised the soldiers for their commitment and professionalism, highlighting the success of the mission, which led to the recovery of weapons and other sensitive materials.
Items recovered from the scene included a locally manufactured AK-47 rifle, a Den gun, nine 9mm pistol rounds, a woodland camouflage outfit, a desert camouflage, a camouflage vest, and a Bajaj motorcycle seat allegedly used to conceal arms.
The statement emphasized that the military remains focused on working alongside other security agencies and community leaders to ensure the safety and stability of the region.
Brig.-Gen. Tukur described the operation as another step forward in the fight against criminal elements, assuring the public that efforts to track down and prosecute offenders will continue without letup.
“The Nigerian Army is fully committed to protecting citizens and their property. We won’t stop until all those behind criminal activities are brought to justice,” he added.
The suspect is currently in detention as initial investigations are ongoing.
