As the Nigeria national team, Super Eagles, prepares for their opening match against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, head coach Jose Peseiro expressed confidence, stating that the team is in high spirits.

Addressing reporters at the pre-match press conference in Abidjan on Saturday morning, Peseiro highlighted the team’s dedication, emphasizing them as the “best offensive” team in Africa, and affirmed their hard work leading up to the game.

He said, “We have worked hard and we are ready for the game against Equatorial Guinea.”

The team captain Ahmed Musa buttressed his coach’s position, saying the team were happy together and ready for the tournament.

Responding to questions about the players who have yet to join up with the team, Mr Peseiro confirmed the arrival of Kelechi Iheanacho, who recently recovered from injury and Paul Onuachu, who replaced Umar Sadiq.

“I can confirm that Iheanacho and Onuachu arrived in Côte d’Ivoire around 4 am” – he also confirmed that Terem Moffi, who was named as the replacement for injured Victor Boniface “will arrive tomorrow (Sunday).”

Meanwhile, Mr Peseiro said he is “under pressure” to perform well given the not so convincing performance in Eagles recent matches, stressing that AFCON is a different event and the team is preparing well to perform at the tournament.
