Ireland’s immigration authorities have deported 35 Nigerian nationals, including nine women and five children, in a large-scale operation carried out on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
The Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) confirmed that all the children deported were part of family units. The group was flown out on a special charter flight from Dublin Airport, arriving safely in Nigeria the following morning.
This deportation marks Ireland’s first charter flight to Africa in 2025 and the third since the country launched this initiative in February as part of efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan highlighted the need for a firm but fair immigration system, stating, “When asylum or immigration applications are refused, deportation orders must be enforced.” He added that these operations demonstrate the government’s commitment to upholding immigration laws and discouraging illegal residence.
The flight experienced an emergency medical stop during the journey, but all individuals were safely returned to Nigeria.
