Woman remanded for inserting burning firewood into 12-year-old girl’s private parts

In Abeokuta, a 25-year-old woman has been held in custody by the Isabo Magistrates’ Court on charges of severely injuring a 12-year-old girl.

The incident allegedly involved inserting a burning piece of firewood into the girl’s private parts.

The defendant, residing at No. 6 Isewo Dotin in Obada-Oko area, Abeokuta, faces a charge of causing grievous harm and has pleaded guilty, appealing for the court’s leniency.

Magistrate B.V. William ordered her remand in a correctional facility and instructed the prosecution to duplicate the case file for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal counsel.

The case has been adjourned until June 26 for further proceedings. According to prosecuting counsel Lawrence Olu-Balogun, the defendant, who is the girl’s guardian, allegedly committed the offence on June 11 at their residence, accusing the girl of stealing beverages valued at N650.

The alleged actions contravene Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
