Why Nnamdi Kanu Apologised in Court – Wife

Uchechi Kanu, wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has shared the reason her husband offered an apology during a court session presided over by Justice James Omotosho. Nnamdi Kanu is currently facing trial on terrorism-related charges.

According to Uchechi, the apology was necessary after a senior lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, stepped in as Kanu’s lead counsel. She explained that the lawyer’s reputation and past roles, including serving as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, required that certain tensions in the court be addressed.

The apology was linked to Kanu’s past confrontation in Justice Binta Nyako’s courtroom, which had resulted in the judge stepping away from the case. Chief Agabi, known for his influential standing in the legal field, sought to mend the strained relationship between Kanu and the judiciary. His approach aimed to restore calm and uphold the respect expected within the courtroom.

During the session, Justice Omotosho also addressed Kanu’s concerns, expressing regret over the delays and issues that had affected the trial in the past. Uchechi Kanu described the intervention as timely, suggesting it was a step toward ensuring the case moved forward peacefully.

Kanu’s legal team said that Chief Agabi’s involvement could help create a smoother path in the ongoing proceedings, which have been marked by tension and delays.
