Super Eagles striker, Tolu Arokodare, has been named the 2024/25 recipient of the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award in Belgium, recognizing the best African player in the country for the current season.
The KRC Genk forward earned the accolade on Monday after an impressive season, having scored 20 goals in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, making him the second-highest scorer in the competition. His efforts played a key role in Genk finishing first in the regular season, although their progress in the championship play-offs was hampered.
Arokodare becomes the sixth Nigerian player to win the Ebony Shoe Award, following in the footsteps of Paul Onuachu, who claimed the honor in 2021. Other Nigerian winners include Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Opara, and Celestine Babayaro.
The 24-year-old, originally from Festac Town in Lagos, made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2025, coming on as a substitute for Victor Osimhen during a 2026 World Cup qualification match against Rwanda. He also featured in a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the same qualification series just days later.
