Tinubu Meets New Alaafin of Oyo at Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu welcomed the newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

This was the first time the monarch officially visited Tinubu since his coronation on April 12, 2025.

The meeting took place shortly after the President concluded a closed-door session with top security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Oba Owoade arrived at the Villa after participating in the Friday Jumaat prayers and was received into the President’s office not long after the security meeting ended.

The visit was a continuation of earlier interactions between the federal government and the royal palace.

During the coronation ceremony held in Oyo town, the federal government, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, had earlier conveyed a message to the monarch.

The meeting in Abuja is expected to build a closer relationship between the Presidency and the traditional institution in Oyo, as well as encourage continued cooperation between the federal government and royal leaders across the country.
