The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that ten road crashes resulted in ten fatalities during the Eid-el-Fitri Special Patrol in the state.
Anthony Uga, the sector commander of FRSC in Ogun, disclosed to journalists in Otta on Friday that 41 others sustained injuries of varying degrees from these incidents.
The casualties included eight males and two females among the deceased, while the injured comprised 22 males, 15 females, and four male children.
Mr. Uga credited the minimum level of accidents to the special patrol operation, which commenced on April 8.
“Most of the road crashes recorded during the Eld-el-Fitri Celebration were caused by excessive speed and tyre burst.
“We are appealing to motorists to reduce their speed as most of the accidents could have been avoidable if the drivers used good tyres and adhered strictly to the average speed limit,” he said.
Mr Uga implored both commercial and private vehicles to install speed limit devices and refrain from using expired tyres to minimise road crashes to the barest level in the state.
