A diesel tanker went up in flames on Tuesday afternoon after it overturned on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT area, throwing commuters into confusion and triggering a heavy fire that damaged several vehicles.
The explosion happened around 3:00 p.m., when the tanker, fully loaded with diesel, lost control and fell on its side before bursting into flames.
The fire quickly spread, burning at least four vehicles, including private and commercial ones.
The incident occurred in a busy part of the expressway known for regular traffic.
Drivers and passengers were seen running for safety as thick smoke filled the sky.
Firefighters from the Ogun State Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and other emergency officials arrived shortly to put the situation under control and stop the fire from reaching nearby buildings and bushes.
The accident has led to a long traffic jam, with many vehicles stuck along the expressway.
Officials have asked road users to take other routes while efforts to clear the scene and contain the fire are ongoing.
No deaths or injuries have been confirmed yet, but an official update is expected from emergency agencies managing the situation.
