The Nigerian police on Wednesday arrested a man believed to be involved with the banned group Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Anambra State.
The arrest took place in Nnewi as security officers worked to prevent disruptions during the planned Biafra Day activities on May 30 across the South-East region.
The suspect, identified as Friday Obeta, 37 years old, was detained for allegedly trying to enforce a sit-at-home order in the state.
The police recovered several items from the suspect, including a motorcycle, a branded t-shirt linked to the group, and an identification card used by MASSOB operatives.
During questioning, Obeta admitted his membership in the banned organization and revealed he also acted as an informant.
His information has helped the police advance their efforts to identify and capture other individuals connected to the group.
The police leadership in Anambra instructed officers to increase their efforts to prevent any illegal assemblies or activities linked to MASSOB.
They are keeping watchful eyes to ensure peace is maintained during the Biafra Day events.
